Name: Henri Lehtinen
What is your job description? :
The automation engineer is listed in the records of the registry office. Logic programming and program design is probably my most obvious job description, but anything related to technology and automation is interesting to explore. These are the problems I usually find myself working on.
How long have you been in this profession? How long have you worked for StrongFlow? :
The paycheck says June 1, 1998. That was when I started working as an electrician, although there were no any job titles in the company. I had just graduated as an electrician, so I was able to do a job in my field.
I have worked for StrongFlow since its inception in 2006, although the company was then under a different name. I have worked for the company practically all my life, 24 years to be exact. I have completed a Bachelor´s degree in mechanical and production engineering while working.
What are your strengths? :
If I had to name a strength, it would probably be some a kind of flexibility and years of experience in different situations with technical equipment. Throughout my working career, I have been forced to learn about hydraulic and mechanical problems. This “forced learning” has been very helpful in the field when we are trying to solve problems together. I should also mention that I am quite calm by nature, at least with strangers.
What is best in your work? :
Variety and tasks, that are close to my own interests. As it turned out, I am interested in technology in various forms, so I often get involved with it in my spare time. The opportunity to be involved in decision-making process during the design phase also helps to maintain interest in the work. Traveling is also part of the job, so it´s interesting to see the world a bit.
What are your hobbies? What do you like to do on your free time? :
I don´t have any formal hobbies. I have paid my annual scout membership fee, but otherwise I have not been involved in any activities. I used to do some photography, but I haven´t done it for a while. My photography equipment is quite old and no longer inspires this kind of technologically advanced mind. New equipment costs a lot of money and over the years I have become a little bit stingy.
Perhaps developing a heating and automation system for my home can be considered a kind of hobby. I have been working on optimizing the use of the energy produced by the solar panels and controlling consumption accordingly. On the other hand, I use the same equipment and software at work, so this hobby doesn´t bring much variety either.
I also bought an electric bike, like many people at work have done, but all I got out of it was a cracked kneecap and a lifelong memory. This summer I will probably try to ride it more calmly. I`ll take the kids with me and make sure we stay on the flat roads. I have three kids, so we will probably be doing more things together in the future. They are at the age where construction and things like that start to get interesting. Time will tell.
What was your childhood dream job? :
I don’t remember having any specific dream job. In the 9th grade, the guidance counselor looked at my certificate and suggested that I become an electrician or a cook. I naturally chose the first. By the time I had already done my own experiments with electricity. For example, I got my first electric shocks from my own tunings.
Fun fact :
Although I have traveled a lot, I have never been to Russia, and I am very proud of that now.
