When designing a control system for any process, it is vital to have an overall understanding of the process at hand. This may seem self-evident, but as process automation systems and the physical process itself are often designed in separate organisations, this requirement cannot always be fulfilled. In these situations, it is important that the automation system designer orientates themselves with the process’s functions and is able to understand different technological characteristics and requirements of the process.
